Levisham & Surrounding Area
Levisham is a picturesque village set in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. It has an inn offering excellent meals and children are welcome. There is also an attractive village church. The village is one mile from Levisham Station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which runs through the beautiful scenery of Newtondale between Pickering and Grosmont. The trains also stop at Goathland where the T.V. series “Heartbeat” was filmed and was also used as Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter films.
Nearby is the market town of Pickering, where you will find a variety of shops including a supermarket, Post Office and several banks. Pickering also has a heated indoor swimming pool with flume, a sports centre and cinema. Flamingoland Zoo and Fun Park is close by. Within easy reach by car is the historic walled city of York with Minster, Jorvik Viking Centre, museums and numerous shops for you to visit. In the area there are many castles, abbeys and stately homes including Castle Howard ( home of Brideshead Revisited ). On Yorkshire’s Heritage coast the seaside resorts of Whitby and Scarborough have good sandy beaches with Robin Hood’s Bay and other quaint fishing villages all only a short drive away.
